4 Jan 2008 - VILLAGE NEWS
SCHOOL SERVICE
The church was full on December 19 for the school end of term Christmas service of songs and readings. The singing led by music teacher Annabel Coombs was superb. The interspersed readings were given by Tom Arnold, Christian Ash, Polly Berks, Ashley Cook, Timmy Drew, Angus Hall, Pollyanna Martin, Jessica Perett, Kate Protheroe, Josephine Rudge, Tamzin Slade and Jodi Wilson.
CAROL SERVICE
Shenington Church was full for the annual service of lessons and carols led by Rev Henry Ormerod with organist Stephen Bell. The village choir, ably conducted by Graham Nottingham, had been practicing for about two months and they sang superbly. The readers all read extremely well, particularly the three children Jonathan Huish, Charlotte Levett and Thomas Koochitt. It made a delightful start to Christmas.
CHRISTMAS EVE
The church again welcomed a large attendance of children, families and friends on the afternoon of December 24 for the blessing of the crib led by Rev Pamela Smith. This was followed in the evening by the annual carol singing on the Green outside the Bell led by Graham Nottingham on the trumpet, with Charlie and Stephen Bell on horns. Fortunately the rain stayed away and so there was a good turnout. The evening finished with Midnight Mass at Shenington led by Rev Jeffrey Chard and again well attended.
On Christmas morning there was a communion service at Alkerton followed by canapés and champagne.
WHIST DRIVE
The next whist drive in aid of church funds will be held in the village hall on Tuesday, January 8 at 7.30 pm.
