22 Apr 2007 - PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL

PAROCHIAL CHURCH COUNCIL

At the annual church meeting of the P.C.C. on April 12, Cyril Anson and Peter Handcock were re-elected as churchwardens at Shenington and Barbara Furneaux and Sheila Poulton at Alkerton.

Two new members, Steve Bell and Trudy Koochitt were appointed which together with Cyril Anson (secretary), Millie Blakiston-Houston, John Calderan, Rev. Jeffrey Chard (chairman), Barbara Furneaux, Marian Hancock (treasurer), Margaret and Peter Handcock, Tony Kendell (vice-chairman), Sheila Poulton, Pat Shaw, Doreen Smith, and Rev. Pam Smith make up the membership of the P.C.C.

The accounts presented by the treasurer, Marian Hancock showed a deficit of income over expenditure of £1,040 over the year indicating that more needs to be raised for church funds.

As chairman, Rev. Chard expressed his thanks to all those who help in the running of the two churches together with a wish that members of the parish should feel themselves to be an integral part of the Ironstone Benefice.

Thanks were also expressed to Barbara and Neil Brooks for opening and closing Shenington Church daily and likewise to Tony Clear at Alkerton, to John Evans for auditing the accounts, to the two Prince brothers who this summer are mowing the churchyard at Shenington as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award and to the working party organised by Keith Hainsworth which made such an improvement to the tidiness of Shenington churchyard.

Following its success last year, church and Village Social Committee are again combining to organise the annual fete to be held this year on Saturday, July 14.
