GARDENING CLUB
At the meeting on March 5 the speaker for the evening was Clive Bevan, an expert on growing very large vegetables. He illustrated his talk with photographs of his successful exhibits which included the world’s largest marrow, a pumpkin over 800 lbs in weight and runner beans longer than a young child.
His tips included starting seeds on damp paper in the airing cupboard, watering young plants with warm water in the early evening and avoiding cross pollination from neighbouring gardens. To protect against insect attack he places a short stub of rhubarb below his green vegetables when planting out and he also recommends using banana skins to ward off damage to tomato plants.
SCHOOL NEWS
A Health and Safety Inspection has been carried out and the inspector has officially classified Shenington School as outstanding with 100% compliance.
An Activitymark 2007 Certificate has been awarded to the School by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport. This has been achieved because at least 90% of the children take part in at least two hours of high quality PE and sport each week.
The school is pleased to receive Tesco and Sainsbury vouchers and collecting points for both have been set up in the school corridor.
