28 Feb 2008 - DR "BILL" BOYD
DR WILLIAM (BILL) BOYD
Bill came to Shenington with Margaret in 1964 to take over the medical practice based at Oriel House previously run by Dr. Rake and quickly showed his skill as a family practitioner.
Bill was a very keen golfer and practiced this skill at Tadmarton Heath where he became club captain.
He supported many village activities. He was on the Parochial Church Council, a governor of the village school and also a member of the Village Hall Committee. His votes of thanks after Over Sixties dinners were memorable occasions.
Bill with Neil Marsh founded the Shenington Green and was the first editor. For many years he recorded the births, weddings and funerals for the magazine and his final contribution was an interesting and amusing article on the history of doctoring at Shenington in the Summer 2004 issue.
Bill had a fine voice and was a member of the Ironstone Benefice Choir until his recent incapacity.
His popularity within the area was fully demonstrated by an absolutely packed Shenington Church at the service of thanksgiving for his life held on February 22, 2008 following his death aged 83 years.
