Frieze at St Michaels Church
On the south side of the church there is a Hornton stone cornice below the nave roof. This is decorated with a frieze of grotesque sculptured figures of men with musical instruments and animals. These carvings have almost weathered away and work was undertaken to preserve them in 1994. Their significance is obscure but it has been suggested that they are the remains of a series celebrating the life of the Black Prince.
